DescriptionHEART, showing infection of the outer covering (pericarditis).
Pericardium and heart showing organising pericarditis with dilatation of the sac. The anterior portion of the pericardium has been removed and the ventricles opened. The aorta, oesophagus, portion of trachea and phrenic nerve remain in their natural relations to the pericardium. The sac contained 35 ozs of turbid serum. The pericardium is greatly thickened from previous inflammation*
The lymph deposit is greatest posteriorly and can only be removed with difficulty vascularization having taken place.
