DescriptionAbdominal aorta, anterior half of coronal section of portion of, and aneurysm.
From a man aet 27 who complained of intestinal irritation abdominal pain and "rheumatic" pains generally throughout the body. A month later abdominal pain was more severe, passed through to the back and into both testicles. He continued to lose flesh and strength and a fortnight later after sudden excessive pain in the "breast” died in a few minutes. Post mortem examination showed the heart slightly enlarged and a large quantity of blood in the abdominal cavity the result of rupture of an aneurysm on the left side of the aorta about 55 mm. distal to its passage through the diaphragm. The opening into the aneurysm was smooth and circular and measures about 13 mm. in diameter. The enlarged pancreas lay over the sac and it probably retarded rupture.
The walls of the sac are very thick involving surrounding structures. Only a portion of the aneurysm has been preserved.
