DescriptionTibia, a right, showing changes due to localized periostitis. It is a large and massive bone yet apparently of a young person for the lines of the cartilages of conjugation are still evident. In the distal third of the medial surface to within 60 mm. of the distal termination of the diaphysis the compact bone is replaced by an oval area of rarefied bone slightly raised above the surrounding surface level. The neighbouring surfaces are slightly involved and their surfaces similarly roughened. The appearances are compatible with a chronic ulceration of the soft parts involving the periosteum.
