The screw rod of this instrument precisely controls the degree of approximation of the blades which minimises the risk of fracturing the tooth. The shape of the lower handle allows the operator to hold the forceps in one hand while adjustimg the screw with the other. The handle is faceted for decoration. This particular type of screw became so popular that it was used for upwards of fifty years.
