DescriptionThis instrument was formerly in the possession of Dr. G.M. Gray. Dr. Gray was a Glasgow man who graduated there in the early years of the the twentieth century. He came out to Nigeria in the Colonial Service before the First World War and resigned from the Service to set up in private practice in Lagos. He was extremely successful and just after the end of the war was joined by a friend of his from Glasgow - Dr. Aitkin, a surgeon. The firm of Gray and Aitkin became well known - not only in Nigeria but in all British West Africa. They were latterly recruited into Government Service on special terms.
