DescriptionEthicon laparoscopic stapler, c.1999.
Stapling is more accurate and faster than suturing by hand. This instrument produces a number of rows of metal staples from a replaceable cartridge and is articulated so that it can be used in minimally invasive surgery, the tissue being sandwiched between the two arms and stapled together. Multiple rows decreases the chance of fluid or air leakage, especially crucial in lung or bowel related operations.
