DescriptionThis depicts a very popular theme. The interior of an eighteenth century smithy with forge and anvil. The blacksmith is extracting with outsize forceps of his own construction a maxillary left central incisor tooth for a peasant , while a woman watches. After (with figures reversed) Le dentiste ou la Dent Tire sans que l'on la Touche. There is some debate about the artist's identity with Aveline the Younger, James Wilson and Johann Simon Neges all suggested. Printed for John Bowles
