Presented to Thomas Smith Clouston (1840–1915), the Scottish physichian.
The case has an engraved plate on the lid that reads:
"Medical School Surgeon's Hall
2nd Senior Prize awarded in
Mr. Spence's Class of Surgery
To T. S. Clouston Session 1858-59"
