This model shows treatment of a Le Fort I fracture of the skull external fixation via the lateral superciliar arch of the frontal bone
A Le Fort I fracture is also known as a floating palate, or Guerin fracture. It usually results from a low, downward blowjust above the maxillary teeth, and symptoms include slight swelling of the upper lip, bruising beneath each zygomatic arch, malocclusion, mobility of teeth. If the fracture is Impacted, the teeth may be almost immobile, but a characteristic grate can be felt when firm pressure is applied to the maxillary teeth. Tapping the upper teeth results in cracked pot sound.
