Amputated from an adult male
An irregular ulcer occupies the dorsum of the hand from the proximal phalanges of the index and middle fingers to the level of their carpometacarpal articulations. The ulcer has a raised sinuous margin undermined in places, and the floor of the ulcer is hypertrophic and warty. Microscopic examination shows the structure of a squamous-cell carcinoma.
