DescriptionIleum showing a leiomyosarcoma
No clinical details available
The neoplasm involves the msenteric aspect of the bowel and extending into the mesentery. On the cut surface of the tumour are many lighter areas which appear to extend towards the periphery of the tumour. There is no obvious ulceration of the mucosa, but an area of central necrosis has occurred and it would appear that a sinus has been in existence or is about to form.
Microscopically, a highly cellular tumour is present in the submucosa with involvement of the muscle wall. The majority of tumour cells are spindle shaped, and in places appear arranged in bundles which interlace. The appearance is that of a leiomyosarcoma
