TitleStomach, pylorus, showing carcinoma
DescriptionWet specimen.
Half of a vertical section of the pylorus, with the pyloric antrum, showing a carcinoma. Removed by operation from a male aged 45 years.
The wall of the pyloric antrum is greatly thickened and the lumen of the antrum correspondingly narrowed. The tumour ceases abruptly at the pylorus and forms a dense homogeneous infiltration of the submucosa, and at one part has invaded and destroyed the muscle and the overlying serosa. Proximally the limit of the tumour is marked by a little warty rim. Microscopically the structure is that of an adenocarcinoma.
