TitleSurgery for septic inflamation of the middle ear
DescriptionSurgery for septic inflamation of the middle ear
The preparation shows the simple operation for septic inflammation of the middle ear
The tympanic antrum of the mastoid air-sinuses has been exposed and the position of the transverse sinus (blue) and of the dura mater of the middle cranial fossa (red) are indicated. The posterior wall of the acoustic meatus has been partly removed to show the tympanic membrane, which is intact save for a small central perforation In practice it would be advisable to remove still more extensively the mastoid air-sinuses, and to follow up any air-sinus extension towards the posterior root of the zygomatic process of the temporal bone.
