The pharynx has been laid open posteriorly with part of the tongue, the larynx and proximal portion of the trachea and oesophagus, showing syphilitic cicatrices and adhesions.
The uvula is thick and fibrous and narrow fibrous bands attach it to both sides of the pharynx. The nasopharynx is contracted and there is some adhesion between the pharynx and the right side of the epiglottis.
