From a female aged 37 years in whom hysterectomy was performed on account of more or less constant pain. The parts were matted together from pelvic peritonitis and were adherent to the rectum. Both ovaries were cystic and contained chocolate-coloured contents.
There is a subserous fibromyoma with a narrow pedicle projecting from the fundus of the uterus. Both ovaries show inflammatory cysts lined with granulation tissue, the walls being formed by luteal tissue and ovarian stroma. There is slight chronic salpingitis with adhesion of mucosal folds.
