Horizontal section of the cerebrum showing a septic abscess in the left hemisphere. From a male aged 40 years, the subject of numerous bronchiectatic cavities in both lungs. A right hemiplegia developed suddenly, associated with affection of speech. The abscess was found post mortem.
The abscess is thick walled and surrounded by a narrow zone of hyperaemia, lined with pus.
