DescriptionSpecimen and Histological Glass Slide x1
Thymus showing Thymoma - a tumour arising from the thymus tissue - from a 17 year old male.
The specimen shows a spherical tumour some 3 inches in diameter, smooth in its line and has shelled from the adjacent tissue readily, but there is considerable surface haemorrhage. The cut surface is somewhat reniform and from the point of maximum concavity in the reniform outline there appears to have been a broad band of connective tissue. The cut surface shows many fibrous fasciculi between which are areas of more compact tissue. The colour is greyish-pink and the appearances are characteristic of a neurofibroms.
Microscopically a neurofibroma showing interlacing bands of fibrous tissue, well-formed and with uniformity of cell, shape and size. The tumour is avascular and there is no evidence of malignant change.
