The cast of a right foot and part of the leg, showing deformity caused by filariasis of the lymph vessels, a parasitic disease caused by roundworm and also known as elephantiasis
From a black man.
The leg has lost its rounded contour by collapse of the large cavernous dilatations of the lymph vessels which replaced to a great extent the subcutaneous tissue. The foot and toes are enormously swollen and the hypertrophied skin thrown into folds on the dorsum.
