She showed no symptoms.
The specimen shows an ovoid tumour with a smooth slightly embossed outer surface. The cut surface shows in the centre of the tumour that some degenerative changes have taken place leaving prominent interlacing fibrous septa. More peripherally the tumour is rather fleshy but again a multiplicity of interlacing strands of white tissue present the picture of a neurofibroma (approximately 4 cm in diameter).
Microscopical examination shows a neural tumour which consists of interlacing fibres, is encapsulated and entirely simple. Ganglion cells are not readily depicted but a few small examples are seen. The diagnosis of ganglion-neuroma would appear to be established.
