The preparation is a heart showing tuberculous infection of the outside lining of the heart (the pericardium).
From a female aged 19 years who died from generalized tuberculosis. She had been under treatment during six months for tuberculosis of the dorsal spine complicated by complete paraplegia. There was no history pointing to heart disease and examination revealed no apparent dilatation of the heart. The heart sounds were normal but there was a well marked “tic-tac” rhythm.
