Myxolipoma of the areolar connective tissue

Object numberGC.745
TitleMyxolipoma of the areolar connective tissue
DescriptionMyxolipoma of the areolar connective tissue
The specimen is a portion of skin with what appeared to be a subjacent sarcoma of the areolar connective tissue, but was later shown to be a myxolipoma
Removed by operation from the thigh of a male aged 40 years.
Section shows a well-defined somewhat lobulated homogeneous tumour, which is not invading the skin. The honeycomb appearance of a deeper portion is due to escape of the essential tumour cells. The structure appears to be that of a sarcoma - later histological examination (14.2.1974) showed it to be a myxolipoma. At this point it is described as having no skin present. Some defined oedematous and vascular areas in a tissue which suggests lipomatous structure with myxoid areas. Some scattered cells with larger nuclei but no evidence of malignancy.
