TitleAnkle joint showing changes due to chronic tuberculous arthritis
DescriptionAnkle joint showing changes due to chronic tuberculous arthritis
The preparation is the distal portions of the tibia and fibula from a right knee
The cartilage of encrustation has been entirely removed from the talocrural articulation and the underlying exposed bone is rarefied. At the anterior margin of the articular surface of the tibia there is a rounded excavation probably the site of a small tuberculous abscess. For some little way along the tibia and fibula the surface is rough and porous with a slight formation of new bone most apparent bordering the groove for the tibialis posterior and flexor digitorum longus tendons. There is a deep excavation in the fibular surface of the distal tibio-fibular articulation which may have been the starting point of the arthritis.
