The ninth rib is expanded into a long fusiform swelling up to 4 cms. in diameter. A portion has been removed for investigation end the lesion is pale grey, rather granular, soft and cut with a gritty sensation.
Microscopic appearance is that of a moderately differentiated metastatic squamous carcinoma compatible with an origin in bronchus, oesophagus and mouth. In view of the radiological findings the tumour is presumed to be bronchogenic in origin.
