Uterus during early pregnancy

Object numberHC.S.1.4
TitleUterus during early pregnancy
DescriptionThis is a model from the colllection used by Professor J. Halliday Croom. He held the Chair of Midwifery, Edinburgh University from 1905-1921. The model demonstrates a pregnant uterus with its associated parts (adnexa). The anterior wall of the uterus has been turned down to expose the texture of the uterine wall and the presence of a young foetus.
This model has been compared to gravid uterus models in the Musee Flaubert in Rouen, France, and appears to be one of a series made by Maison Auzoux in the nineteenth century. The material looks ro be papier mache, and the style of the uterine wall, the numbers used, and the method of closing the anterior flap match those of Auzoux's models. (CI June 2022)
