DescriptionFoetus. A dicephalic, tetra-brachial
The full term, female foetus possesses two heads, two necks, four upper limbs, a common trunk and two lower limbs. The four shoulders are well formed, the posterior pair being less widely spaced than the anterior pair. The trunk above is broad and obviously consists of two thoraces partly fused on their adjacent ventro-lateral aspects. The spines are widely separated above and quickly approximate from above downwards but remain separate to near the coccyx which forms a slight projection (vide radiograph). The iliac bones are normally paired but widely separated. The pubic and ischial bones likewise are not duplicated. The anterior abdominal wall is broad but otherwise normal. The vulva and anus are single. Projecting from the anus is a smooth soft pedunculated swelling the size of a cherry. The four limbs are well formed.
