Object numberGC.6710
TitleBrain, subdural haematoma
DescriptionWet specimen.
The occipital lobes and a transverse segment of the cerebral hemispheres, between parallel coronal sections 20 mm apart, about the middle of the brain, showing a right subdural haematoma, from an adult.
The haemorrhage extends from the falx cerebri almost to the inferior limit of the lateral surface of the cerebral cortex and forms a flattened coagulum with a maximum depth of 10 mm. The blood clot has flattened the convolutions and extends between them in the posterior, but merely lies on the surface in the larger segment. The compression has led to deviation of the great longitudinal fissure and to compression of the right lateral ventricle. The surface of the left occipital lobe shows some flattening of its convolutions which appear softened and disorganized.
