4 components of the Lithotrite in a black covered case. Instruments were used in early minimally invasive surgery to crush bladder stones and let them pass naturally. Formerly the property of John Bishop the last private assistant to Lord Lister when in Edinburgh. The lid of the case has a plaque reading 'John Bishop'. Each section of the instrument is inscribed 'John Bishop' and was made by Gardner, Edinburgh. The case is damaged and now in two parts.
