Finger skin with glomangioma

Object numberGC.10060
TitleFinger skin with glomangioma
DescriptionFinger skin with glomangioma.
From a male aged 42 who for two years had had a swelling under the terminal skin crease of the right middle finger, which he attributed to a previous injury. The swelling was entirely painless and gave rise to no symptoms. On examination there was a smooth, rounded tumour in the subcutaneous tissue, firmly adherent to the skin which was somewhat thinned by pressure. At operation the tumour was found to be encapsulated and was dissected out and removed.
To demonstrate its site of origin, the tumour has been implanted in a finger removed from another subject. It is seen to be of rounded contour, about 10 mm in diameter, and brownish-red in colour. The microscopic character is that of a tumour of one of the cutaneous glomera. A characteristic feature is the presence of perivascular sheets of glomus cells, uniform cells of somewhat cuboidal shape and with rounded nuclei rich in chromatin.
