DescriptionLine engraving on paper by Marinus (Martin Robin van der Goes, c.1599-c.1639) after the painting, 1628, but in reverse, by Jakob Jordaens (c.1593-1678). His plates were always worked entirely with the graver (the tool used to carve lines into the printing plate).In the centre, Saint Apollonia has her teeth forcefully removed. This is her martyrdom. In the foreground a dog and a horse react to the scene by turning away, in the background cherubs can be seen breaking through the clouds.
