TitleMortar (replica)
DescriptionA replica of the mortar used by Gilbert Primrose, an ancestor of the Earl of Rosebery. It was presented to the College of Surgeons in 1909 by Lord Roseberry who was a distant relation of Primrose. The original was acquired by the National Museum of Scotland and a replica made for the College. It was thought that Primrose dropped it in the boprders while serving with the Scottish army and it was discovered years later by a ploughman in the vicinity.
