In the centre of the original painting, there is a bearded bare-chested man seated on a wooden chest, and attired in a yellow jacket and red trousers. Behind him stands the tooth drawer wearing a violet jacket, in the act of extracting a right mandibular bicuspid tooth. The assistant dressed in light blue holds a lighted candle. On the left are four spectators, one of whom clutches the patient's wrist. Dental instruments hang on the wall. Mid-19th century.
