TitleSkeleton distorted by osteopsathyrosis
DescriptionSkeleton, with the natural ligaments, showing deformities due to osteopsathyrosis (fragility of the bones, or rickets) in childhood.
The skeleton which measures 78.75cm vertically, is that of a woman who died in childbirth.
The skull is well-formed and the perfection and completeness of the teeth are remarkable. The clavicles are slightly concaved anteriorally. The arm bones are only distorted by the action of the muscles upon them, but these muscles it will be observed, were the muscles which carried the weight of the body. The forearms and hands are well-formed.
The spine is distorted in the form of an S, and the heels of the feet touch the knees. On neither side is their a twelfth rib and on the right side the eleventh rib shows a healed fracture with some excess of callus at the middle of the body. Deformity of the pelvis is more definite on the left side than on the right.
