TitleHip joint showing changes due to tuberculous arthritis
DescriptionHead, neck and great trochanter of a femur from a left hip joint, showing changes due to tuberculous arthritis.
At the junction of the posterior inferior portions of the head and neck, a cavity containing an irregular sequestrum has been excavated in the cancellous bone. The cartilage of encrustation over the cavity has been partly destroyed leaving a narrow strip with a semilunar slightly sinuous border overhanging the space. A small portion of the cartilage is undermined as far as the fovea capitis femoris. Elsewhere the encrusting cartilage is unaffected.
