Elbow joint with tuberculosis

Object numberGC.905
TitleElbow joint with tuberculosis
DescriptionBones of the left elbow joint, showing changes due to tuberculous arthritis.
Removed by amputation after the disease of the elbow joint had existed for many years. The arthritis has evidently been limited by the articular capsule so that little bony change beyond the joint has taken place. The joint surfaces are deprived of their cartilages of encrustation and have undergone much rarefaction, and the cancellous bone is exposed everywhere. The central portion of the radial head is isolated as a sequestrum. The appearance suggests an acute recrudescence of a long quiescent arthritis.
