TitleElbow joint with osseous ankylosis following tubercular arthritis
DescriptionJOINT, elbow, showing tuberculosis. Elbow; joint, Radius and ulna with part of the humerus, showing osseous ankylosis of the right following tuberculous arthritis.
Removed by amputation from a child.
The radius and ulna are short and their distal epiphyses and cartilages of conjugation are absent. The middle two fourths of the medial border of the radius form a thin shelf-like proIongation towards the ulna. The lateral border of the ulna at the attachment of the pronator quadratus forms a thin ridge terminating proximally in a short spine. The subcutaneous surface of the olecranon process has been accidentally broken off exposing the cancellous bone. The radius arid ulna are both firmly ossified to the humerus whose distal extremity has been destroyed by disease. The lateral epicondyle and border of the humerus for 70 mm. is irregular from several excavations which have probably resulted from tuberculous ulceration of the overlying soft parts
