Elbow joint with ankylosis

Object numberGC.4802
TitleElbow joint with ankylosis
DescriptionElbow joint, Bones of an adult right, showing ankylosis.
Excised on account of loss of movement at the elbow joint. The forearm has been fixed at an angle of about 110° with the arm. A saw cut has been made horizontally through the bones previous to excision of the segments. There is osseous fusion between the ulna and the humerus, while the fixation between the radial head and the capitulum is partly osseous and partly fibrous. The existence of a definite space between the radial head end the ulna suggests a traumatic displacement of the radius as possible. An excavation on the medial side of the radial neck is probably the result of inflammatory decalcification
