TitleKnee joint showing tuberculous arthritis
DescriptionKnee joint showing tuberculous arthritis
The preparation is the bones (except the patella) of the lateral half of a sagittal section of a left knee joint.
From a child in whom tuberculous arthritis had resulted in posterior displacement of the tibia, with fixation in flexion of the knee.
The tibia is displaced to the posterior limit of thearticular surface of the lateral medial condyle. The surfaces of the bones are fairly normal and the proximal tibio-fibular articulation has not been involved.
On section, the cancellous bone around the joint in both the tibia and femur has irregular spaces of considerable size, and the general cancellous architecture is modified and irregular. The ankylosis between the femur and tibia appears over a limited area to be osseous.
