In a village smithy, a countrywoman is seated on a stool and the blacksmith is extracting a maxillary incisor with home-made outsized forceps. The woman clutches the blacksmith's nose in pain, while a man holds her head. Horse shoes and other tools lie around the scene as if to highlight the rural situation in comparison to the Town Tooth Drawer.
