The preparation is the ribcage (ribs, costal cartilages and sternum) of a child showing rickety enlargement at the costo-chondral junctions - the cartilage that attaches the ribs to the sternum. These appear as a string of beads under the skin, and so are often referred to as a rachetic (or rickety) rosary, like the rosary beads
