DescriptionPhalanx. Bones of the finger of a child showing deformity due to tuberculous osteomyelitis of the proximal,
The original body of the bone forms the dorsal surface of the affected phalanx but is thick, rough, rarefied and at the neck perforated by a number of small irregular openings. On both sides and distally on the volar surface tie bone has been more or less destroyed by decalcification and the compact bone is replaced by porous new bone separating or surrounding irregular cloacae. The proximal portion of the volar surface is thick and rarefied. Decalcifying cancellous bone in the interior is the remnant of the original body of the phalanx.
