The preparation is the distal portion of an adult left tibia & fibula. The malunited fracture is through the distal third.
From an old man whose leg was injured by a reaping machine many years before death.
The fracture has passed through the bones obliquely in a posterior and distal direction. The distal fragments have been displaced anteriorly and with a medial inclination proximally. The distal fragments have become firmly ankylosed to the proximal fragment of the tibia, the distal fragment of the tibia overhanging the medial surface of the proximal fragment. The proximal fragment of the fibula has united to the posterior border of the distal fragment by osseous ankylosis.
