The fibular articular facet is not in evidence on the tibia while there is some appearance on the fibula of a portion of its corresponding facet. The rest of the joint is fused with the tibia by a strong osseous mass which extends for some way along the fibular neck and forms an arch with the corresponding portion of the tibia. The neck of the fibula is flattened anteroposteriorly and its posterior border reduced to a narrow ridge.
