TitleSkull with fracture
DescriptionSkull showing a fracture.
From a male aet 62 years.
The lines of fracture run for the most part horizontally. Commencing at the fissure between the petrous temporal and the sphenoidal wing on the right side a fracture passes through the base of the petrous portion comminuting the anterior surface in the region of the arcuate eminence (whence a small portion of bone is missing) it involves the roof of the external acoustic meatus -and passes backwards touching the superior border of the junction of the sigmoid and transverse sulci towards the lambda where it breaks up into a number of fine radiating fissures. On the left side a fissure commences at the posterior root of the zygomatic process of the left temporal, it passes backwards and then upwards ) through the posterior part of the temporal squama and curves horizontally backwards to meet the left limb of the lambdoid suture 35 mm. from the lambda. There it divides into two finer fissures which pass into the supra-inial portion of the occipital bone. There is slight fissuring of the body of the sphenoid more on the right side, where it passes into the foramen lacerum, than on the left side and a portion of the dorsum sellae has been broken off and is missing exposing the sphenoidal sinuses.
