Ununited fracture of the humerus

Object numberGC.173
TitleUnunited fracture of the humerus
DescriptionHumerus, distal half of an adult right, showing an ununited fracture.
The fracture has passed distally and laterally with but slight obliquity through the distal third of the diaphysis. In each fragment the marrow cavity has been shut off by bone and covered with fibrous tissue or fibro cartilage. The adjacent surfaces of the fracture hare been much increased in extent by marginal callus and the fragments have been held in position by fibrous tissue which has formed the capsule of the false joint. For the most part the callus is of light porous bone. The bone in the immediate neighbourhood of the callus has undergone little alteration
