Removed by amputation through the distal third of the thigh of an adult.
The ulcer measures some 90 mm. in vertical diameter, occupies the lateral and medial aspects of the leg and forms a projecting, warty, hypertrophic mass of which examination at the margin shows a transition to squamous-cell carcinoma . The skin proximal to the ulcer is cicatricial for a considerable distance.
