DescriptionTransverse segment of a left leg, showing traumatic emphysematous gangrene.
From a soldier who received a gunshot wound of the left knee-joint in France, August 1916. There was a compound comminuted fracture of the femur just proximal to the joint. Suppurative arthritis occurred and the limb was amputated through midthigh.
