TitleGangrene of the foot following frost bite
DescriptionFoot, Portion distal to the mid-tarsal joints of a right, showing gangrene.
From an adult whose toes were frost-bitten.
The toes are flexed and white, and the nails have been lost. A transverse line of demarcation crosses the dorsum of the foot about the level of the bodies of the metatarsal bones and is continued similarly across the plantar aspect. Much destruction of tissue has taken place on the dorsum including the extensor tendons, and the head, neck, and part of the body of the hallux metatarsal are bare. The margin of the viable skin is at a considerable distance from the necrotic portion.
