TitleA left index finger, showing gangrene
DescriptionA left index finger, showing gangrene.
Amputated through the proximal phalanx from an adult male who, having accidentally cut his left index finger, applied pure carbolic acid to the surrounding parts soon after the accident and again during the night.
The pulp of the finger, which bears the original cut, presents a somewhat oval slough well defined from the surrounding tissue. The skin of the terminal and most of the middle phalanx is shrunken, wrinkled, and brown, and shows the commencement of a line of demarcation from the healthy tissues on the dorsum and sides of the finger.
