DescriptionCarbolic gangrene of the distal part of the mid-finger of the right hand.
A splinter of wood was removed from the finger three days previously and a 1-in-20 carbolic dressing applied.
The distal and part of the medial joints of the finger are shrunken, darkened in colour, and the cuticle is partly desquamated. The junction between the living and dead is well-defined.
