Blood Gas Analyser Part

Object numberED.CS.2025.35.250
TitleBlood Gas Analyser Part
CreatorRadiometer (Manufacturer)
DescriptionPart from a radiometer blood gas analyser, used to accurately measure partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide, and PH, in the blood. Cylindrical glass body with flute glass attachment ports, out of one (covered by black rubber) is emerging two thin metal tubes. The body is attached to a metal right-angled clamp. The lower portion of the clapm is stamped with the logo for Radiometer Copenhagen.
Hypothermia was used during cardiac and nuerosurgery, and at low temprature pulmonary excretion of CO2 was blocked, resulting in a large gradient or difference between arterial and end-tidal partial pressure of carbon dioxide. Accurate blood analysis machines were developed by Radiometer in Copenhagen as a response to the polio epidemic - The head of laboratory, professor Poul Astrup, and anesthesiologist Bjørn Ibsen discovered the right diagnosis by measuring the pH value in blood using Radiometer's pH meters.
